Edward is an entrepreneur with a background in engineering, product design, and sustainability. He has a passion for creating technology and infrastructure to enable a world that works for everyone. Prior to Hylo, he built his entrepreneurial experience co-founding Mission Motors, a high-performance electric motorcycle and electric powertrain company, and Impact Hub Oakland, a community center and coworking space in Oakland. Along the way, he has created curriculum and taught entrepreneurship at Presidio Graduate School and California College of the Arts’ Sustainable MBA Programs.
Julia is an experienced community organizer and digital movement builder with a passion for helping large groups turn online energy into real-world impact. Before Hylo, she was part of the founding team of LeadNow.ca and helped scale it to 500,000 members and thousands of communities. Julia brings years of experience leading online and offline mobilization and cross-sector collaboration, from GOTV work to conferences and multi-stakeholder coalitions and networks. She remains active as a contributor in several social venture and social change networks, especially in her former home, Vancouver, BC.
Lawrence brings to Hylo over a decade of experience building web and mobile apps, on projects ranging from a local services marketplace, to a charity-minded housewares retailer, to a meme generator platform. Across that range, the common theme has been his passion for mining the creative tension between software engineering constraints and the nuances of human perception, to create delightful and impactful products that use technology to amplify collective intelligence.

Ray is a Full Stack Software Engineer with 9+ years of experience specializing in innovative, reliable, and maintainable solutions to complex problems. His experience spans from architecting secure web application solutions for the government to modern application development for several startups. An avid rock climber and Mountaineer, Ray thrives on challenges and is always committed to delivering beyond expectations.
As our Product Lead, Sam draws on his recent experiences as the Head of Digital Operations for the Women’s March movement, and CTO for Lawyers for Good Government to guide the development of Hylo. Along with his movement experience, Sam brings to Hylo proven methodologies from his time as a Solution Architect at Personify, a legacy software and database provider for large associations. Sam stays grounded in the needs of online communities as an active member of Progressive Coder’s Network and Ragtag.
Jay is a grassroots community organizer, facilitator, trainer and strategist. From helping to roll out the world’s first campaigns to divest public pension funds from fossil fuels, to coordinating major mobilizations in Washington DC, to working for two City Governments, Jay’s approach includes a blend of both online and offline grassroots organizing. Jay has helped pioneer and train digital political advocacy for the past 10 years, and specializes in creating scalable, decentralized field structures that mobilize and make change in the real world.
In his role as a designer, Justin blends his experiences as a product designer and programmer. With a BFA in Interaction Design from California College of the Arts, Justin has applied his skills to code and design his very own app, called Rhymeo, that was downloaded by over 20,000 people wanting to learn how to freestyle rap. Afterwards, Justin joined Yerdle and Connect as a designer, where he would weave between systems, experience, and visual design while coding animations for iOS and the web.
Alex loves creating awesome user experiences in the world. She holds a BFA in Interaction Design from California College of the Arts. She brings experience from her time as Design Lead at Yerdle, and at Connect.com. She considers clear communication to be her superpower. When she’s not working on interaction design, you’re likely to find her outside, generally near trees, water, or both.

Loren is a full-stack developer driven by a passion for empowering groups towards meaningful dialog and coordinated action. He sees software engineering as a thoughtful response to a careful listening to users and group dynamics. Having explored this relationship in working on multiple consumer applications related to group collaboration before joining the Hylo team, he brings engineering prowess informed by real world lessons. In alignment with this work, Loren personally enjoys philosophy, psychology, small-group facilitation, painting and dance.

Rich is a full-stack developer and self-taught Linux geek in Auckland, New Zealand. He is passionate about decentralization, open source, and building tools that help communities support each other. A later-in-life career changer, he spent 17 years as a paediatric intensive care nurse, and flew around in the back of planes and helicopters retrieving patients for Starship Hospital. He finds wombats completely fascinating.

Andy brings years of experiencing building tools for knowledge sharing and organizing at scale. His recent projects include working as lead developer and project manager for CrisisCleanup - a self-organizing disaster relief platform that helps community organizations to canvas their neighborhoods and provide worksite information to individuals and organizations who can assist recovery efforts, and as a senior developer and product manager with Kiron - a free higher education program for refugees based in Berlin.

Robbie started programming at 10. His projects include an evolutionary algorithm for generating visual art, a collection of sound synthesis algorithms, and a zombie video game written in an obscure functional language. He combines his interest in software with a passion for interpersonal communication. He was a lead facilitator at the Integral Center in Boulder for several years, where he led people through emotional and relational processes that helped them reach new depths of connection and self awareness. When not working, he can be found admiring trees and crushing his opponents' dreams playing Magic: The Gathering.
